FROM THE BOARDING DEPARTMENT
When we talk of boarding we mean, the areas which must go hand in hand with academic progress. These areas include: The dormitories, dining hall, classes, furnitures and virtually every building structure in the school.
As boarding department, we have experienced a growing trend from the time the school was established. New buildings have been set up while the old ones have been renovated to improve their standards. As of late, four dormitories have been renovated. This renovation has been done in two phases. The first phase was renovation of Aggrey and Kraph houses which was completed early last year. The second phase was the renovation of Washington and Wilberforce houses courtesy of Kagumo Old Boys Association (KOBA). The third phase is not yet but it is aimed at renovating the other three houses that is , Wambugu, Kimathi and Muhoya. New dining hall; which is an extension of the old one has been built. This is aimed at saving time taken in the D.H and it has been effective since the beginning of last year. This extension of the dining has made it possible for the students to be taking their meals in one shift, contrary to what was happening there before. This one shift has created time since students can now have a prep starting from 1.20 pm to 2.00 pm.
To reduce congestion in classrooms, we have already built a one story building which holds 8 classes. This has made our school to have 6 streams compared to 5 streams which used to be there. Further, we are planning to build a 3-stories signature building. This signature building will serve as staffroom computer lab and library. After completion of this project, we will set up a multi purpose hall and this will greatly help to raise our school’s standards.
As the boarding department, we have decided to work relentlessly in order to give our students conducive environment for studying. We have also devised new way of ensuring hygiene is observed in the dormitories. Due to this, we are conducting house inspection on daily basis. This has made cleanliness to rise a notch higher. At the end of the year, the winning house is given a bull. This has created stiff competition since every house want to be the best house overall.
To sum it all, I would like to say that we are ready to go an extra mile and raise the standards of our school. We are aiming to be the very best if not the best in the country. We are also ready to mould our student so that they don’t just become ordinary people but gentlemen of consolidated intellect.
